Cumberland Island National Seashore

After leaving Georgia full of pecans and sweet tea, we headed to Cumberland Island via ferry from St. Mary (ha ha). A short ride across the river and into the ocean drops us on Cumberland Island for the night. After listening to the trail Nazi tell us of snakes, insects, and raccoon dangers, oh did I forget the biting yellow flies that "make Cumberland Isle miserable this time of year", we trekked about 3.5 miles to our camp site. On the way, curious amadillos, bumbled around the forest and onto the trail as though they were sniffing us out. One little critter thought Tom's shoes were his long lost buddies. In fact, I think we heard him say, "I've been looking for you guys!". Those amadillos were a treat to watch. Despite the ominous warnings of the ranger, the island was absolutely beautiful and secluded. There were even luxurious cold showers at our campsite! We spent some time on the beach the next morning to catch sunrise and the wild horses in the pictures grazing on the beach. Unlike the guy the ranger described, Tom held back his urge to snort in their faces and provoke them to the point of attack. That poor sap lost part of his scalp when one of the stallions had a snack after being aggravated. We think the baby likes camping, although momma's back was ready for a bed after three days of camping pad sleep. Body pillow, come to momma!
